Jaitapur nuclear plant gets conditional clearance

NEW DELHI: The proposed Jaitapur nuclear power project in Maharashtra has been given a conditional go-ahead by the Expert Appraisal Committee of the Environment Ministry.
However, since the assessment reports of Environment Ministry do not have the mandate of dealing with radiation issues, the final approval will be given only when Atomic Energy Regulatory Board gives the green signal for the project.
The proposed nuclear plant with a capacity of 10,000 MW plant has been facing stiff opposition from civil society groups with Konkana Bachao Samiti at the forefront.
